A-G Requirements
The "A-G" requirements are a set of college preparatory courses that students must complete with a grade of C or better to be eligible for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State university (CSU) system. These requirements include 15-year-long or 30 semester-long courses across seven subject areas. Eleven of these courses must be completed before the beginning of the student's last year of high school.
SMHS Graduation Requirements
- Social Studies - 30 units - 3 years
- World History, US History, Government and Economics
- English - 40 units - 4 years
- Math - 20 units - 2 years including 10 credits of Algebra or 20 credits of 2-year Algebra.
- Science - 20 units - 2 years
- Physical Science 10 Credits and 10 Credits of biological science.
- Visual and Performing Arts, Foreign Language, or CTE course -10 units - 1 year
- Electives - 75 units
- Health - 5 units total
- Physical Education - 2 years
A-G Requirements
- History - 2 years
- English - 4 years
- Math - 3 years/4 recommended / Including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2
- Lab Science - 2 years/3 recommended
- Language other than English - 2 years / 3 recommended
- Fine Arts - 1 year
- College Prep. Elective - 1 year
- "C" grade or better in all of the above

- SAT Reasoning and/or ACT
- SAT II Subject Exams
Community Service/Extracurricular Activites
University admissions and scholarship committees value community service and extracurricular opportunities through school or community based clubs and organizations, refer to your Student/Parent Handbook for a list of clubs.
